When there is a weak bond between the father and the children, there will be an insecure relationship which can inhibit brain development and can cause the following:
1. Avoidance
2. Ambivalence
3. Disorganized attachment.
People should understand that parenting is a skill, a Father's engagement shouldn't prevent him from connecting with his child.
The father figure in Africa has been misrepresented to be a sinister type that children should be afraid of.
Now that things have gone wrong, do you think hitting him will solve the problem?
Capital No...
As a classroom teacher in Nursery, primary and secondary school, I can't remember the last time I flogged my students. Yet they don't mess up.
Discipline is not about the rod, as a teacher I try my possible best to connect with my students first before any form of correction or punishment.
A lot of things need to change in Africa especially the way father figure is seen. I think the only thing that can expel this ignorance is broad expansion of knowledge and a deep understanding of such.
There are many beliefs our people have held onto which they need to let go for our personal and collective development. You know the popular saying from the holy book: "There is a way that seems right to a man but the end is destruction ."
Some African parents have taken to this way when it come to the task of parenting,I hope there will be a Redemption to this,so that we will not lose our children to fear.
......... Every child is your Child ........
